Professional drivers know this better than most. Being on the road takes a toll on you. Although most of the time, the illness is minor, sometimes, it can be overwhelming.

One weekend, General Manager Steve Krakowski received a phone call from a woman in distress. Her husband, a professional driver, had a high fever the night before and still was not feeling well. The driver was traveling along I-5 when he decided to stop at the TA in Aurora, Oregon, for the night. She wanted him to go to urgent care but failed to find one in the area online. Steve took out his cell and found one roughly 10 miles away.

While still on the phone with Steve, the wife tried to find a ride for her husband, but with his truck being too large and Lyft nor Uber available, she had no luck. Distraught, she asked Steve where her husband could get a ride.

“I told her to tell him to come in and ask for me. I’d take him. I wasn’t going to let him suffer,” Steve said. She thanked him before calling her husband. A few minutes later, a man about 70-years-old made his way to the cashier and asked for Steve.

“He was a nice fellow. We talked the whole way there [to Urgent Care].” Steve provided the driver with his phone number and told him to call when he was done. He’d be happy to pick him back up.

And he did a few hours later. A stop by the pharmacy to fill the driver’s prescription and Steve brought the driver back to his truck in the TA parking lot, where he could take his medicine, rest and stay until he was feeling up to driving again.

Apparently, the driver had called his wife, because not too long after, Steve received another call thanking him. And the next morning, the driver, feeling a lot better, came in to thank him, too.

“If you do good things in life, you get rewarded for it. That’s the easiest thing I could do all day. His wife was very concerned… so I just took care of it,” Steve said. “He is a nice guy. I haven’t seen him since, but I’m sure if he does come through, he will stop by and see me.”

The driver’s wife sent her thanks to Steve, saying, “A huge thank you to Manager Steve! My husband was so sick and so far away from home, but Steve took him [where he needed to go]. I’m very grateful to the manager! Most people wouldn’t care, but Steve did.”

TAHQ Employee Gives Back http://www.6daijia.icu/newsroom/tahq-employee-gives-back/ http://www.6daijia.icu/newsroom/tahq-employee-gives-back/Whenever there’s extra food, whether it be from an event that gets canceled, from a lunch with plenty left over or from the kitchen when a pandemic hits, there’s only one logical thing to do with it – give the food to those in need. Dave Weybrecht, Facilities and Office Manager, knows exactly who to call to help do so.

One phone call and Kim Giberson, Quality Assurance Analyst, is making plans to come load up the food and take it to St. Herman House in Cleveland.

Kim is an extraordinary example of someone who gives back to his community. Over 25 years ago, his brother-in-law, a priest, introduced Kim to St. Herman’s as a place to take leftovers after church. Now, Kim is a frequent volunteer, and never misses an opportunity to provide meals to the charity.

“The meals program is run completely by donation, yet they provided more than 72,000 meals in 2019,” Kim said. The charity also is the only facility in Cleveland that provides anyone in need with three hot meals a day, every day of the year. It also provides shelter and support for homeless men, and aims to meet the basic needs of the people in the Cleveland community.

Kim doesn’t just provide food but tries to step in whenever he can to help. He has acted as an amateur electrician, a home plumber, a crafty woodworker and, most importantly, a friend.

“The gentlemen there are very caring people who still ask how you are despite losing everything,” Kim said. “It changes you to see that... About 12 men live there full-time, and they help run the operations. I like talking to and getting to know them.”

TA Mill City Employees Save Site http://www.6daijia.icu/newsroom/ta-mill-city-employees-save-site/ http://www.6daijia.icu/newsroom/ta-mill-city-employees-save-site/Friday, May 15 was an average day at the TA in Mill City, Nevada. There was a steady flow of drivers and employees were in their everyday routines. Around 3:30 p.m., something changed that – a vehicle flew off the exit ramp and into the desert, immediately catching fire near the site. The Highway Patrol followed the now-burning vehicle, and forced one of the two men fleeing from the car to the ground.

One of the technicians looked out and noticed the fire rapidly approaching the officer. He reached for the fire extinguisher and hurried to aid, stopping the fire before it reached the two men on the ground.

General Manager Sasha Darr was at home when she saw the heavy, black smoke coming from the direction of the site. She called the Store Assistant General Manager and learned the wind was pushing the fire straight toward the TA Truck Service shop. Sasha jumped into her truck and sped to the scene. Once there, she checked on her employees, told the Shop Assistant General Manager to evacuate everyone from the building and, without hesitation, jumped into action, four other employees following her lead.

Each grabbed what they could – shovels, a rake and a snow shovel – and raced out to the fire. Those employees were Sam Gilbreath, Shop PCM, Travis Monroe, technician, Dave Gentry, technician, and Kody Hill, technician. The five formed a line and began to put dirt on the fire. FMT John Menicucci had seen the smoke coming from the site, too. When he arrived, he quickly grabbed a shovel to help.

The fire was hot and smoky, but the six were able to fight it until it was no longer an immediate threat to the building. They weren’t done, though. The wind had shifted, and the fire had started burning toward the road. The team kept at it, working to prevent the fire from jumping the road and spreading toward the employee housing. The Imlay Volunteer Fire Department arrived roughly 15 minutes later. By then, the fire had jumped the road. Luckily, the fire department was able to maintain it from spreading even more into the desert.

Sasha, a volunteer firefighter herself, said, “We were relieved [when the fire department arrived]. These guys [the employees] were a huge help… They didn’t have to do what they did, but it was greatly appreciated and very honorable for the company. I love this team out here; they’re my people!”

When all was said and done, Travis, Dave and Kody clocked in for their night shift.

“I want to recognize these employees. These guys were fantastic!” Sasha wrote in an email to Corporate. And Ed Kirkwood, Regional Vice President of Operations in the Northwest, and Quyntyn Johnson, District Manager, did just that. They both made the trip down to Mill City, Nevada, to personally thank and reward the six employees.

“All TA employees have proven to be heroes during this pandemic by coming to work each day to keep products moving across the country. But like I told this group of Mill City team members, each of them stepped it up a notch and became superheroes. Without any hesitation, they jumped into action and helped saved the site from burning down,” commented Ed. “Getting a first-hand look at the burn marks, you can see the fire could have easily engulfed the whole site if this selfless group didn’t take immediate action. Quyntyn and I wanted to personally look them in the eyes and thank them. We couldn’t shake their hands due to COVID-19 but we gave them a big thank you, elbow bump and a gift card.”

TA Express Walsenburg hands out donated masks to professional drivers http://www.6daijia.icu/newsroom/ta-express-walsenburg-hands-out-donated-masks-to-professional-drivers/ http://www.6daijia.icu/newsroom/ta-express-walsenburg-hands-out-donated-masks-to-professional-drivers/As places begin to open up with restrictions, the demand for masks is on the rise. When a local church group approached the TA Express team in Walsenburg, CO, with an idea, the two decided to join together to help keep professional drivers safe. The church group would sew masks, and the team would distribute them to the drivers.

So far, the site has provided over 115 professional drivers with masks.

“The truck drivers are very appreciative, and some give donations, which we give to the church group for more materials and other supplies they need,” said site GM Karen Horner. In one instance, the site ran out of masks in just two days but was able to collect over $75 in donations.

Now, the church group calls at least every other day to see if more masks are needed. If so, Judy, a volunteer from the church group, happily brings them.

“[Judy] just floats in with a huge smile that you can’t see through the mask, but you [can] see in her eyes. [She] delivers a bag full of masks, collects any donations that were left for the masks and disappears as quickly as she came in.”

Petro North Little Rock Employees Help Motorist Find Lost Ring http://www.6daijia.icu/newsroom/petro-north-little-rock-employees-help-motorist-find-lost-ring/ http://www.6daijia.icu/newsroom/petro-north-little-rock-employees-help-motorist-find-lost-ring/On their way home from vacation, Teresa Hines and her family visited the Petro in North Little Rock, Arkansas. They dined at the Iron Skillet and visited the restroom before heading back on the road. Teresa had no idea she accidentally left her wedding ring in the restroom until she was half-way home to Tennessee. She was devastated.

Teresa desperately made a call to the North Little Rock Petro. She said, “the sweet manager told me a customer turned the ring in, and she would keep it in a safe place until I could come back the following Sunday."

That manager was CSR lead Shanenia Summons.

Shanenia was not working when Teresa arrived back that Sunday. The manager on duty (APCM Latonya Harris) called Shanenia, who was sleeping at the time.

Teresa said, “That sweet woman Shanenia got up from sleeping and came to the station to give me back my ring. Not many people these days are as honest as she or the customer that turned it in are. I appreciate both of the managers that

worked together to return my ring to me.”

She continued, “The world could use more people like your managers. I appreciate Shanenia’s honesty and compassion, and to me, she was an angel.”

It was a normal day for site General Manager Steve Lindgren when another employee found a wallet full of cash and credit cards. Steve put the wallet in a locked safe and contacted the gentleman on the driver’s license.

When Don picked up the phone, he was half way home to Wisconsin. He was overwhelmed with the team’s honesty and insisted that Steve take $50 from the wallet as a reward. Steve told him that was not necessary and said that he was just doing the right thing.

Don wrote a special thank you note to the team:

“I want to thank not only Steve but all the staff there that took care of my wallet and even sent it to my home. It was absolutely the greatest thing I’ve ever had happen! There are good people out there still and thank you so much.”

Two weeks later, Don came back to the TA in Porter and requested to see the team to say a personal thank you.

This time, a customer did just that for some of our employees.

A regular at TA New Braunfels reminded the site’s employees just how special they are.

Michelle Perella came in for her coffee one day in late March. The site employees greeted her, as always, and they struck up a conversation. They learned that Michelle and her husband were both retired military nurses that had just retired a year and a half ago. Michelle purchased her coffee and left for the day, or so Store PCM Julie Adamson Warren and Store APCM Jessica Chavez thought.

Later that day, Michelle returned to TA with nine hand-made masks in hand, one for each employee. “It warms my heart to know that there are people in this world who care for others,” Julie commented. “In these times of uncertainty, it is amazing to know that our customers care for our employees.”

Antioch TA Truck Service team continues to impress during pandemic http://www.6daijia.icu/newsroom/antioch-ta-truck-service-team-continues-to-impress-during-pandemic/ http://www.6daijia.icu/newsroom/antioch-ta-truck-service-team-continues-to-impress-during-pandemic/The TA Truck Service team in Antioch, Tennessee received a thoughtful note of thanks for their great service.

The email reads, in part:

“Hi,

I am with Royal Trucking and I do the over the road breakdowns for us. I would just like to say the people (who worked on his truck) did a fantastic job for us today.

When I called the TA and told the service writer I had a big problem with a trailer and a customer waiting to get the load that was on it, they went to work.

I am the first one to tell venders they did not do a good job, but I also like to tell companies when their people do a good job. Please let them know. Overall, TA has always done good work for us and thanks for that.”

The team in Antioch continues to work on trucks during this pandemic. We thank them for all they’re doing to help drivers who continue to keep the economy moving.

Petro Wells Proudly Supports the Wells Leopards http://www.6daijia.icu/newsroom/petro-wells-proudly-supports-the-wells-leopards/ http://www.6daijia.icu/newsroom/petro-wells-proudly-supports-the-wells-leopards/Wells, Nevada is a pretty small town. Its 1,200 residents rely on each other to keep the local economy moving. The schools are short-funded and families shell out extra money to keep their kids in sports and other extracurricular activities.

Petro Wells Assistant General Manager Lyndsey Morrow understands the important role that her Petro location has in being a community anchor. She has taken a leadership role in the community, donating more than 100 hours a year of her time to the schools and serving as a board member for the local Chamber of Commerce.

Lyndsey’s co-workers help, too. The site employees donate their time at school events, all proudly representing Petro Wells.

Store and restaurant GM Lisa Romero created two programs that rewarded kids for their achievements. If a student reads six books, he can come in and eat for free at the Iron Skillet. If a student gets good grades, she can choose a candy bar or soda.

Casino AGM Preston Harding serves as vice president of the Chamber. He helps out with donating his time for other community events around Halloween, July 4 and more.

A large banner that says, “TA, Petro and TA Express is proud to support the Wells Leopards” graces the building.

Lyndsey recently shared a letter with us that she received from the local school principal. She said that this is why she does what she does. The letter, in part, reads:

“With gratitude, we acknowledge your recent donation to Wells Combined Schools. We are deeply indebted for the generous supply of incentive coupons provided to our deserving students. During this period of budget constraints, it becomes ever more difficult to obtain the financial resources needed to fund school endeavors. Rest assured, these coupons will be put to good use.

During the nice spring days ahead of us, we hope you will see families redeeming coupons and supporting your business in exchange for your generosity. The power of collaborative efforts between business and school matters to our community. Please accept our sincere thanks for your support and efforts to provide for our local children.”

And during this coronavirus pandemic, the Wells site remains open to serve drivers. While the majority of the community is shut down, the site staff ensures the carry-out food options are available and the area remains clean and safe for all who enter its doors.

The following message was received this week from a driver who visited the TA in Whitestown, Indiana:

“I normally don’t stop at TA, I prefer [another truck stop]. This morning I stopped at a TA in Whitestown to use the bathroom and grab a coffee and I have never been happier with a decision.

All employees were in great spirits despite everything going on and they even gave me a handwritten thank you card from the team for doing what we are doing as professional drivers. The manager spoke with me like I was his best friend and I see why all employees were so happy and in great spirits. This isn’t normal for most places especially truck stops and I wanted to thank you for people like that and places like this.

I will stop at TA more often and this one definitely whenever I am in this area. great great great”

Vietnam Veteran Reunited with His Treasured Hat http://www.6daijia.icu/newsroom/vietnam-veteran-reunited-with-his-treasured-hat/ http://www.6daijia.icu/newsroom/vietnam-veteran-reunited-with-his-treasured-hat/What do you do when you lose an object that represents who you are?

For Robert Boyle, a driver for Landstar, the answer is to try to figure out where along the middle of the U.S. you might have left your hat, and then when you think it’s gone for good, settle with the idea that you always have the memories.

What’s so important about Robert’s hat? He’s a Vietnam veteran who proudly served his country, and on his hat was the Vietnam Vet pin that was a part of Robert. The helicopter wings were also there, a nod to his army training as a helicopter pilot. Also on the hat was the Landstar Star of Quality Award pin that he got just for being himself. As Robert puts it, “I like helping customers; it’s a natural thing for me to do.” And, “two drivers who I mentored wrote letters to Landstar and I ended up getting a BCO Mentor pin, too.”

Robert had a lot of his life on that hat, and when he realized it was missing, he mentally tried to trace his steps. He says, “It was a tough trip. I pulled out of St. Louis and went to Laredo. My 10-12-hour break was at the TA Henry Albert Truck Stop. I had my truck greased and pulled out about 3 a.m. and then got to Laredo about 8 a.m. The next stop was Houston and then the TA in Greenwood, Louisiana. “I showered, got a sandwich and then headed to St. Louis. The next morning, I reached for my hat and tore the truck apart looking for it. I finally realized I left it somewhere.” Thinking he’d never see the hat again, Robert drove on and thought about how he might be able to duplicate the hat that meant so much to him.

In the meantime, the GM of TA Greenwood at the time spotted the hat and says, “I was in the army for three years. I could appreciate the sentimental value.” He took a picture of the hat and sent the photo to Landstar. Connie Kortus at Landstar did some sleuthing and contacted Bill Ater, a Landstar driver, to ask if he was a Vietnam vet. Bill said no, but he was sure he knew who the hat belonged to.

Robert was in Cleveland when the photo of the hat was sent to him. “Like having your firstborn come home again,” is how Robert explains how he felt when he looked at his phone and saw the hat. Once everything was confirmed, the GM wrote a note to send with the hat, along with a TA pin, to Robert’s home.

Our friendly TA network went out of their way to solve the case of the missing hat, and the GM is looking forward to the dinner Robert’s promised him, the next time he’s in Greenwood.

A Reminder of Why We Do What We Do http://www.6daijia.icu/newsroom/a-reminder-of-why-we-do-what-we-do/ http://www.6daijia.icu/newsroom/a-reminder-of-why-we-do-what-we-do/It’s always nice to receive notes of thanks. During this time of uncertainty, the feeling is a bit sweeter.

The team at our Country Pride in Tooele, Utah, was reminded of that feeling when they received a note from a driver after his meal on Tuesday evening. It had just been announced that the dining room would be closed indefinitely starting the next morning.

With changes in effect around the country, GM Jill Jennings said numerous drivers are now hauling essential loads and adjusting to changing rules. There are increasing demands on drivers’ schedules as normal regulations are being flexed to adapt to the need for supplies in this country.

She’s hearing drivers say they don’t know what they’d do without us. They’re saying that we’re the only way they can shower, do laundry and do the things the CDC is mandating them to do. One driver said, “I just want to thank you so so much because you are here and you’re helping us stay strong. We still have food in our trucks, but we choose to get out and see you.”

Jill said this is a reminder of why we do what we do. Hearing from drivers personally is all she needs.

Laying the Way http://www.6daijia.icu/newsroom/laying-the-way/ http://www.6daijia.icu/newsroom/laying-the-way/When Knoxville resident Keith Flannery’s daughter got a flat tire at work, he rushed right over to help his little girl.

Her tire had a screw in it and was completely flat. After Googling places to take her car, Keith called the first place that popped up. It was 6:30 p.m. and they told him they weren’t taking in any more work that night. Keith offered to plug the tire himself and asked if he could just use the air, but the shop refused to help.

Thinking outside the box, Keith knew about a TA near him, the TA in Caryville. Knowing it was a “truck stop,” he called hoping for some help. He got Shop PCM Wayne Lay on the phone and told him the story; Keith said it was music to his ears when Wayne told him to bring in the car to see if they could help.

Keith took the car to the shop at TA. Wayne got a kit, plugged the tire and checked it for leaks. The tire was completely fixed. Keith said no matter how many times he tried to pay Wayne, which was several, Wayne would not take a dime from him. Wayne simply said, “Merry Christmas,” and sent him on his way.

Keith took the time to write in about this story, adding, “That type of guy is getting harder and harder to come by. You have a true asset at that shop. I just wanted someone besides myself to know it. Thank you.”

On Jan. 18, Petro Eloy General Manager Robert Warner was at home when a 911 call came in. It was 12:30 a.m., and there was a fire at his site. Upon arrival, he found a frightening scene: a truck engulfed in flames, emergency vehicles everywhere and many people scattered around the area, including a man without a shirt.

Given the 35-degree temperature, Robert asked the man why he didn’t have clothes on. He quickly learned the man’s name was Larry; the burning truck was his.

Larry lost everything. Possessions, including his wallet, phone, passport, tablet and clothes, were gone in the flames.

Robert knew he had to help, so he gave FMT Travis Duncan a $100 bill to buy Larry a sweatshirt, socks, flip flops and a jacket from the travel store. Once he was clothed, the two brought Larry into the office to warm up and call his wife to let her know what happened.

While Larry was on the phone with his wife, Shop PCM Alex Boe, Restaurant PCM Bill Avery, Travis and Robert took up a collection to buy Larry a hotel room for the next two nights. And the next morning, Robert picked Larry up and drove him to the Verizon store 25 miles away to get a new phone.

The team received the following heartfelt email from Larry:

“After my truck had a fire, Robert Warner helped me recover. He went above and beyond the basics to help me out, including arranging to get my load moved to another Landstar truck and taking me to get a new phone.

He and his staff showed true concern for me and the effect on my family. I want to thank him, his staff and TA/Petro for all the great help. Everybody treated me really well to get me through a few days and start putting my life back together.”

Larry’s wife is a custom woodworker. She created a unique candy dish for Robert and filled it with LifeSavers for Larry’s “lifesavers.”

Embedding ourselves in the local communities we serve is part of what makes TA and its employees so special.

Our team at the TA in Wytheville, Virginia recently showed local residents how much they care. On Jan. 20, nearly 25 employees spent their day off volunteering at a local restaurant that serves people in need.

The Open Door Café is a pay-what-you can eatery that relies heavily on donations, including labor. TA employee Rita Kelley (in the light blue Open Door Café shirt) is a regular volunteer at Open Door and suggested volunteering as a site to give back to the community.

GM Jennifer Duncan said, “The event was such a success and so gratifying for our staff. It was such a special way to bring our team together and help others.”

After a successful first experience, the TA Wytheville employees have hopes of volunteering there at least once a month.

They helped load the 630 presents collected during the company's 2019 Annual Holiday Toy Drive. Santa's elves packaged the toys Monday evening and were ready to haul the loads into two big cargo vans the Red Cross drove over.

Wednesday, Dec. 18, children and their families are invited to the Red Cross of Northeast Ohio’s regional headquarters, 3747 Euclid Avenue in Cleveland to enjoy a fun afternoon of snacks and refreshments. The children will also be given the opportunity to select a toy for themselves from the toys donated by TA employees to take home and enjoy this holiday season.

“It is the best day of the year for our staff and volunteers,” said Renee Palagyi, senior disaster program manager for the Northeast Ohio Region. “We get to see smiles instead of tears after responding to so many fires all year. We just love making the kids happy.”

2019 marks the 21st year of the partnership between the Red Cross and TA. Last year, dozens of children and their families attended the event. The toy giveaway will take place from noon to 6:00 p.m., with many children arriving after school.

TravelCenters of America is sponsoring the fuel for the cross-country journey of the U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree. Saturday, the tree made a stop at our Petro location in Raphine, Virginia, also known as White's Travel Center.

The rain couldn't keep hundreds of community members away from coming out to celebrate. Local government officials were in attendance, church choirs sang carols and families decorated tree ornaments. People enjoyed food and hot cocoa while they signed the banner on the side of the truck. Santa also made an appearance!

The tree arrived in Washington D.C. early Monday morning.

The tree also made a stop to fuel up at our Davy Crockett Travel Center in Greeneville, Tennessee. More photos can be found on the U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree's official Facebook page.

The Carson National Forest in partnership with nonprofit partner Choose Outdoors will bring the special gift from New Mexico to Washington D.C. for the 2019 season.

“The annual journey is only possible with the help of strong community partnerships throughout New Mexico and beyond state lines,” said Bruce Ward, president of Choose Outdoors. “We’re grateful for the time and resources TravelCenters of America is providing to help make this the best year yet.”

The cross-country trip begins Nov. 11. The tree’s journey can be tracked in near-real time at capitoltreetracker.com.

WESTLAKE, Ohio, March 29, 2019—TravelCenters of America LLC (TravelCenters), operator of the TA®, Petro Stopping Centers® and TA Express® travel center brands, announced its sixth annual Citizen Driver honorees during an award luncheon ceremony at the Mid-American Trucking Show (MATS) in Louisville, Kentucky. Citizen Driver recognizes professional drivers who help bring respect to the truck driving profession.

The 2019 Citizen Drivers are listed below. Each driver has picked their favorite TA or Petro Stopping Centers location to be dedicated in their names. Citizen Drivers will also be the recipients of individual banquets and unveiling ceremonies hosted by TA executives at their chosen locations.鈥?/p>

Signs will be mounted at these locations and dedication ceremonies will take place soon. With this group of honorees, there are now more than 30 TA or Petro Stopping Centers locations across the country dedicated to drivers to honor them and all professional truck drivers.

WESTLAKE, Ohio, January 3, 2019 – TravelCenters of America LLC, operator of the TA®, TA Express and Petro Stopping Centers® brands has unveiled a new, improved UltraONE® loyalty program. The revamped program gives new benefits and increased flexibility to TravelCenters’ most loyal customers with two ways to earn more rewards.

Drivers earn points based on their fuel volume from the previous month, with January 2019 as the first qualifying month and February 2019 as the first earning month under the new program structure. The more drivers fuel each month at TA, Petro and TA Express locations, the higher gear they will attain the next month. Gear levels allow drivers to earn up to four times points the following month.

Points can then be redeemed at any TA, Petro Stopping Centers and TA Express location for showers, meals, reserved parking and more. UltraONE points are flexible so drivers can redeem them in the way that works for them.

The improved program also introduces UltraCredit rewards. For every fill up of 60 gallons or more of diesel fuel, UltraONE members will earn an UltraCredit. At lower monthly volume levels, members will earn an UltraCredit that can be redeemed for a shower. At the higher volume levels, drivers can redeem UltraCredits for their choice of a shower, a meal or a reserved parking spot.

WESTLAKE, Ohio, December 11, 2018 – TravelCenters of America LLC (TravelCenters), operator of the TA® and Petro Stopping Centers® brands, has announced it will again participate in supporting ‘National Wreaths Across America Day,’ a day earmarked each December by the Wreaths Across America (WAA) organization to honor fallen veterans. On Saturday, December 15, the organization will coordinate wreath-laying ceremonies at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C., as well as hundreds of other veteran cemeteries nationwide.

On December 12, volunteers and veterans invited by WAA will stop at the Petro location on I-295 in Bordentown, NJ, where they will be welcomed and served dinner at the travel center’s Iron Skillet® restaurant. The WAA message about the importance of remembering our fallen heroes and honoring those who served also will be shared.

“It’s our privilege to support the Wreaths Across America organization by opening our doors to provide them with meals and a place to stop, rest and share their message,” said Barry Richards, President and COO of TravelCenters. “The WAA mission to remember and honor those who have died while serving in our military is important and one we share throughout the year in our travel centers,” he added.

Tens of thousands of volunteers, including professional truck drivers, are expected to deliver and help place more than 250,000 veteran wreaths at Arlington on December 15. Dozens of trucking companies have also contributed to the effort through donations of trucks, drivers’ time and fuel.

Wreaths Across America also coordinates wreath laying ceremonies at over 1,500 veteran cemeteries across the country during December. The Wreaths Across America organization is a not-for-profit charity whose activities are made possible by volunteers who raise funds to sponsor the wreaths and participate in the events.

TravelCenters of America LLC (“TravelCenters”) (Nasdaq: TA) announced that members of its team of 13 ASE Master Technicians and two TA Truck Service student technicians won first and third place overall in the trailer competition category, along with winning a combined 19 tractor and trailer stations at the annual TMC SuperTech and TMC FutureTech competition held in Orlando, Florida. TMC SuperTech is an elite competition bringing the best truck service and repair technicians from U.S. original equipment manufacturers, trucking companies and repair facilities together to compete nationally. The two-day competition consists of written tests and hands-on work stations.

In addition to excelling at TMC SuperTech, TA Truck Service technicians also compete at the state level throughout the year. This year, 65 technicians from 40 TA Truck Service facilities competed in 14 state competitions, winning 44 stations.

The TA Truck Service record of achievement at TMC SuperTech and state competitions demonstrates the commitment to hire the most dedicated people and provide them with comprehensive training in order to provide the highest quality truck service maintenance and repair centers on the highway. On average, 1,600 technicians, managers and repair shop staff receive training at one of two TA Truck Service training facilities located in Lodi, Ohio and Eloy, Arizona each year.

TravelCenters of America LLC (TravelCenters), operator of the TA and Petro Stopping Centers travel center brands, will launch its annual campaign on August 15, in support of the St. Christopher Truckers Development and Relief Fund (SCF), a non-profit organization that helps truck drivers suffering financial hardship due to being out of work for an illness or injury. The month-long campaign will run at participating TA and Petro locations through September 30th.

During the event, guests and employees at TA and Petro Stopping Centers will be invited to make contributions. New this year, commemorative 3”x 3” window clings will be made available for $1 along with the annual wristbands and SCF keychains for $1 and $5 respectively. Contributions may be made at participating TA and Petro restaurants, travel stores, fuel buildings and truck service facilities. One hundred percent of proceeds go directly to SCF.

“With driver health and wellness becoming a higher priority within the truck driving industry, we understand how important it is for drivers to have access to appropriate medical and financial support that will help get them safely back on the road,” said Barry Richards, President and COO of TravelCenters. “We are honored to continue our support with SCF this year and look forward to another successful Band Together campaign.”

TravelCenters has been supporting drivers through the SCF since 2010. The TA and Petro annual campaign marks the largest single contribution the Fund receives each year. As of July 2018, the SCF has helped more than 2,300 truck drivers and their families with monthly bills, including utilities and mortgages totaling up to $2.3 million.

“It’s hard to believe that Band Together is in its ninth year! The St. Christopher Fund has truly been blessed with the support of TA and Petro. This campaign not only supplies us with needed funding, but it also raises awareness of the organization. There have been a countless number of drivers helped directly as a result of Band Together. Once again, we thank all of TravelCenters employees and customers for their part in ‘Saving Lives and Families, One Driver at a Time’,” said Dr. Donna Kennedy, Executive Director of SCF.

Professional drivers who are suffering from financial hardships due to medical problems can apply to the SCF for assistance at www.truckersfund.org.

TravelCenters of America LLC (TravelCenters), operator of the TA® and Petro Stopping Centers® travel center brands, is now accepting nominations for the 2019 Citizen Drivers. The program, launched in 2013, is designed to recognize professional drivers who evoke public respect for the truck driving profession through good citizenship, safety, community involvement, health and wellness, and leadership.

Anyone -- fleet owners and executives, co-workers, friends, family members, trucking organization members, trucking industry customers -- may nominate a professional driver for the honor. Nomination forms, rules and other information can be found at www.6daijia.icu/citizendriver. Nominations will be accepted through September 30, 2018.

The 2019 Citizen Driver honorees will be announced at a special ceremony. Over the course of five years, there have been 31 Citizen Drivers and each have had the TA-Petro site of their choice named after them in their honor.

“We always enjoy this time of year, when the nomination period opens in search for our next set of Citizen Drivers. We encourage everyone that knows or works with professional drivers to think about who stands out and nominate them. It’s an honor, every year, to get to know the nominees and to read the stories that have made an impact on the people they interact with every day,” said Barry Richards, President and COO of TravelCenters.

Our industry-expert judging team had a difficult time narrowing down the 2018 nominees to a group of finalists, and eventually honorees. Five nominees became Citizen Drivers and had a TA or Petro location of their choice named for them. The signs will be changed at these locations and dedication ceremonies will take place over the coming weeks. The ceremony dates and times are:

  • June 20, 6:30 p.m. -- Danny & Cindy George -- TA Wheat Ridge, CO -- “Danny & Cindy George Wheat Ridge Travel Center”
  • June 22, 1:00 p.m. -- Ingrid R. Brown -- Petro Oklahoma City, OK -- “Ingrid R. Brown Oklahoma City Stopping Center”
  • July 6, 1:00 p.m. -- Carol Wolder-Nixon -- TA North Bend, WA -- "Carol Wolder-Nixon North Bend Travel Center"
  • July 7, 1:00 p.m. -- Roland Bolduc -- TA Branford, CT -- "Roland Bolduc Branford Travel Center"

TravelCenters congratulates all of the 2018 Citizen Drivers once again. Articles on each of the honorees can be found in the July/August issue of RoadKing magazine, available at all TA and Petro locations.

TravelCenters of America LLC (TravelCenters), operator of the TA® and Petro Stopping Centers® travel center brands, announced its fifth annual Citizen Driver honorees during the Citizen Driver ceremony at the Iowa 80 Trucking Museum in Walcott, Iowa. Citizen Driver recognizes professional drivers who help bring respect to the truck driving profession.

TravelCenters launched the Citizen Driver program in 2013 in an effort to honor the many great, hardworking professional truck drivers that keep our economy going. Citizen Drivers not only have an exemplary career in trucking, they are great examples of the kind of people who honor the great profession of truck driving by demonstrating their good citizenship, safety, community involvement, and leadership.

The 2018 Citizen Drivers are listed below. Each driver has picked their favorite TA or Petro Stopping Centers location to be named after them. Citizen Drivers will also be the recipients of individual banquets and unveiling ceremonies hosted by TA executives at their chosen locations.

  • Roland Bolduc -- TA Branford CT -- "Roland Bolduc Branford Travel Center"
  • Ingrid R. Brown -- Petro Oklahoma City, OK -- “Ingrid R. Brown Oklahoma City Stopping Center”
  • Danny & Cindy George -- TA Wheat Ridge, CO -- “Danny & Cindy George Wheat Ridge Travel Center”
  • Carol Wolder-Nixon -- TA North Bend, WA -- "Carol Wolder-Nixon North Bend Travel Center"

With this group of honorees, there are now 28 TA or Petro Stopping Centers locations across the country named to honor professional truck drivers.

"It’s hard to believe we’ve been honoring such hard working men and women as part of this program for five years now," shared Barry Richards, President and COO of TravelCenters. “We could not be more proud of the character these individuals display both on the road and off, demonstrating the true spirit and grit of a professional truck driver and we hope to continue this tradition for many years to come.”

TravelCenters accepted nominations for the 2018 Citizen Drivers throughout last year, and received nominations from a wide variety of people -- fleet owners and executives, other drivers, friends, husbands, wives, sons, daughters, mothers, fathers, trucking organization members, and trucking industry suppliers -- wanting to recognize the deserving drivers who have touched their lives. Distinguished members of the trucking industry, Chris Spear, President and CEO of the ATA; Todd Spencer, Acting President of OOIDA; Ellen Voie, President and CEO of Women In Trucking; David Cullen, Executive Editor of Heavy Duty Trucking; and on air trucking radio personalities, Eric Harley of Red Eye Radio; Dave Nemo of Road Dog Trucking; and Steve Sommers of America's Truckin' Network, judged the submitted nominations and selected the honorees who excelled in the identified categories.

The 2019 Citizen Driver nomination form, rules and other information will be posted to the TA and Petro Stopping Centers web site in June 2018. Nominations will be accepted through September 30, 2018. The new honorees will be announced at the 2019 Citizen Drivers Award Ceremony.

TravelCenters of America LLC (TravelCenters), operator of the TA® and Petro Stopping Centers® travel center brands, announced today that their annual campaign for the St. Christopher Truckers Development and Relief Fund (SCF) has concluded for 2017. The customer and employee support received during this annual campaign, “Band Together for SCF”, along with raffles and other events held throughout the year, has resulted in the presentation of a check in the amount of $241,310.58 to the SCF.

By rallying customers and employees around the single cause of helping professional drivers who are suffering financial hardship due to medical problems, TravelCenters has worked to help provide more than $2.2 million since 2010 for the fund.

Band Together ran during August at TA and Petro Stopping Centers locations nationwide, and invited customers and employees to support the cause in helping drivers in need. The Band Together campaign provides wristbands, in exchange for donations of $1 and $5, that drivers and others can wear to show their support for the campaign. TA pays the cost of all of the wristbands and the organization of the campaign and, as such one hundred percent of all monies collected can go to the SCF.

"We’ve been proud to partner with SCF for the past eight years by organizing Band Together. It is truly amazing to see drivers dig deep to help fellow drivers in need. Our company and our employees are honored and proud to stand with drivers, for drivers,” said Tom O'Brien, President and CEO of TravelCenters.

“Band Together is such a special time for us: Not only do we see how generous and supportive drivers are, but we see how many drivers are in need of that generosity and support. We are grateful for those that gave their time, energy and dollars for this program,” said Dr. Donna Kennedy, Executive Director of the SCF. “We are blessed to be here for drivers and we are thankful to TravelCenters for helping us support the truck driving community,” she continued.

The TA Restaurant Group, a division of TravelCenters of America LLC (TravelCenters), invites all active duty military, veterans and reservists with proof of service to enjoy a complimentary meal on Independence Day, Tuesday, July 4, 2017, at participating Country Pride or Iron Skillet sit-down restaurants nationwide. Independence Day meals can be enjoyed at more than 170 participating full-service restaurants within TA and Petro Stopping Centers nationwide.

“It is an honor to acknowledge the men and women who have sacrificed so much for our country by inviting them to our restaurants to share a meal,” said Tom O’Brien, President and CEO of TravelCenters. “We will also be honoring all of those who gave their life defending our country by preparing Fallen Soldier Tables at our restaurants. A single place setting at an empty table represents the wish that fallen men and women of our armed forces could be present to dine with us. Having set these tables on patriotic days over the last few years in our restaurants, employees at our sites have seen and shared in the emotion and memories of those who lost friends and loved ones while serving. It’s a moving and special experience for everyone,” continued O’Brien.

This July 4th, any veteran, active duty or reservist from the military can receive a complimentary meal of their choice from a special Military Only menu, by simply showing proof of service to their server prior to ordering their meal. Proof of service includes: U.S. Uniform Services ID Card or Retired ID Card; Current Leave and Earnings Statement; Veterans Organization Card; Photograph in uniform; DD214; or Citation or Commendation.

This is the fifth year that TravelCenters is honoring military with free meals in its restaurants on Independence Day. TravelCenters has served more than 36,000 free meals to veterans and active duty military service men and women in the last four years.
